Hey guys, I was browsing through the option in STALKER: CoP and I found SSAO options.

What exactly does that option do and should I max it? There are also different modes to put it in, which is best?

im not positive, but i think its something to do with objects being blurry in the distance as if there is a heatwave. i dont personally like it but some people do apparently.

Just try it out and see what you like,..

It's not a type of dof, or "heatwave".

I use HBAO on high because it has the same effects of HDAO without the large performance hit. Basically everything on screen (like shadows, characters, objects, the sky and terrain) has more depth. Take a screenshot without it and one with it enabled at max and it'll be easier to see the difference.

Basically it's an additional lighting/shadowing process on top of the regular hardware lighting and shadow methods, that creates an added realism to the scene.

Personally I'd use HDAO on an ATI card, and HBAO on an nVidia card.

Either way, it does entail a decent perf hit though. It's up there with AA ... not a 'lightweight' effect like AF.
