This may be a silly question but I thought it be better to ask first. I'm figuring out how to make room on my desk for the second 24" display that's on in the mail and am considering standing my Yamaha receiver on it's end (tall-ways) to save space. To me it seems perfectly safe as it's just solid-state components inside the receiver...

Is there any reason I should not do this?

Other than blocking a vent, I don't see why it would be a problem.

It probably won't make a difference, but standing it on it's side could potentially make it run hotter.

If the vents are up top, the heat would rise out of the case. With it on it's side, it could be more difficult. It would also have the heat rising over other components inside of the case rather than away from the components.

I have no proof to back this up or know if it will even happen, but just a theory.

Weird, this thread got me thinking. So I looked at my own receiver, and I've only got vents on the left side. Hmm.

Thanks for the quick responses guys... Good thinking with the heat issue, I hadn't considered that.

Luckily my receiver has vents on the top and also the left side of the case. If I stood the receiver up it would be on it's right panel leaving the ventilated side panel at the top so heat wouldn't be an issue.

That and if you have some old pc fans laying around. Could easily put some in proper places to help ventilation. I know on my Onkyo. It gets mighty warm. Even with nothing on the left side, 6" space on the right and 4" on top. Almost wish it had some fan or fans.
