Steam Backup Help

1317 Views 10 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  newt111
I bought Bioshock ages ago, and got tired of downloading it when I reformatted my rig...so I made a backup last time

when I try to run the backup exe, it says "there is not enough free disk space to run steam"

I have 500+ gigs of hd space...4 gigs of ram...what's going on?

Is there an option in Steam I can use to install Bioshock without downloading it again?

Unless you saved where the game is installed on then you just need to add it to your steam game list by shortcut probably. If not then you have no choice to redownload it all.
I saved my backup to cd.. trying to install from that
how much free space do you have on the drive steam is installed to?
500 gigs
hmmm. i don't know - it should be a case of run app, and enjoy

i guess you'll have to redownload it?
you partition the hdd into seperate pieces?
Like one for the OS and the other for programs?
If you mean you used the in-steam backup method and then saved the created file to a CD, than you have yo copy the files onto your hard drive before unpacking them i would assume.

Higgins is right. I assume you are running Vista?

If you made a backup to CD, you need to extract the contents of the CD to your computer's desktop. Then run the steambackup.exe and restore the games.

Steam on Vista is picky, and Steam on Vista x64 is pickier. If you perform the above steps your game backup should install without issue.

Im only assuming that's what his situation is.

I have my steam backups saved to an external hardrive, so i can run them from there without issue. Them being on a CD, however, is a completely different story.
Yeah you guys were right, I thought about it at work today, came home and tried it and all is well
