Updates to Team Fortress 2 have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

Added Multicore Rendering

* This initial release is aimed at testing compatibility, so the option is OFF by default
* To turn it on, go to the Options->Video->Advanced dialog, and check the "Multicore Rendering" option

Other Changes

* Several performance improvements to decals and client bone/flex setup
* A variety of alt-tab and mode switch fixes
* Improvements to the way the engine initializes surround sound, fixing some specific hardware cases
* Fixed a crash on exit in Vista 64

I wonder if this will REALLY fix the crash on exit problem.

And a great place to try this new update is the OCN server. 8.12.68.58:27015. Wonderful server.

i only care about the multicore support ahaha
I can't wait to see how multicore rendering is. They need to add the SLI support from the left 4 dead engine though.

Multicore rendering only crashes my machine it seems... Oh well, not like I can get higher then 60 fps anyways with V-sync on XD

Steam today announced the addition of multi-core rendering to their hit game Team Fortress 2. This feature is in testing mode right now and can be enabled through the options->video->advanced menu.

Here’s the official updates....

Cool, will be testing this tonight. Can you make timedemos in TF2 ?

I doubt it. Most of the things Valve has said they've fixed over the past month haven't turned out:

-Flamethrower stuck on: still happens
-Facestab fix: They happen more often now
-Sidestab fix: Its harder to backstab now

Sounds cool. I just got Orange box, but I can't play it yet because I don't have my i7 rig set up. I need to get it done asap then.
Here is the Steam update article.

I don't think so, at least not naively. You may be able to find a 3rd party program to do it. (and this should be in the Video Game news, or at least Software news.) I think your best bet would be to find an empty server and run around on your own.

I'll have to check this out.
Doubt your frames are that good in game with 32 players

This is good news, hopefully it works well with quads!!

Woot! Maybe now it won't crash.

OMG GUYS!! This has really improved my fps. Before in a 32 man server I was getting like 40fps outside in a fight now I get 170 lowest.
Thanks so much Valve.

EDIT: To chavez885, I see a great improvement for quads. This game is more smoother than L4D now for me.
