Alright, here is something I encountered and need some advice. On the 600pt Gromacs cores I always noticed that they take up about 100MB of RAM while folding...

Anyways, for the first time ever today, I have 2 of these monsters folding on each core.... the problem: they're only working on 60MB of Ram Each.

It gets worse: I download the FaH 5.04 beta version that allows you to allocate ram. So I set it to 150MB for each instance, and sure enough in task manager it says each instance is @ ~106MB

However, I have yet to see any speed increase in the folding process!

What gives? How much RAM do your 600pt gromacs take? Has anybody had similar strange perforance issues?

Not all 600 point Gromacs WUs are created equal, so I could see different WUs using different amounts of RAM. I've seen a nearly 100 times difference between the lowest and highest RAM usage on different WUs. Of course you would not expect that much of a difference between WUs in the same project family, but a 40% difference probably isn't unheard of.

Same project no too 2414... I don't know, my main concern is that even though they received a higher allocation of ram, they haven't gained any performance. They used to use up 64MB each, now they use 106MB each, but the speeds are exactly the same.

I'm not sure how much allocating extra RAM will really help. WUs seem to have a need for a certain amount of RAM based on the calculations that need to be performed. It seems like there must be an advantage to allocating more RAM or otherwise they wouldn't have added the feature, but perhaps it's more of a maximum rather than a set value. For example, if you set it to 200 MB and your new WU is one that needs 250 MB to run, it'll find you a different WU to do.

I'm on the road on a lappy, so I can't check my farm and fiddle with this for a few more days.
