Stupid ATX 2x4 12V question

2601 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  mraviator
After 6+ years I'm building myself a new i5-750 based system. I'm also trying to catch up with the changes in technology...

Is the 2x4 12V power dedicated power for the CPU? In other words, I need to plug power from the PSU into that plug as well as the standard 2x12 ATX plug?

Sorry for the basic question, but better to be safe than sorry...

Thanks,
Michael

Yup. All modern setups(sans REALLY low-power builds) require a CPU "AUX" connection in addition to the 24-pin.

Also, make sure not to mix up 8-pin(4+4) CPU aux power connectors for 8-pin(6+2) PCIe power connectors, They have a different pin-out and configuration. IIRC they can't even fit in each other connector slots.

thanks for the confirmation on that!
