Thanks everyone

I refuse to spend 23$ on a cable (dynex at best buy) and I really appreciate the help

I just looked at the picture of the back of it.

I also have a question about this hard drive so I'll just be tacking on my question.
I was reading on the bestbuy reviews that this hard drive does NOT work with windows 7 can anyone confirm this for sure?
I can find little information on the drive itself other than on best buy and I can't find it minus one refren reference document on the Western Digital Website

I need to know because though I don't currently have windows 7, I am getting ready to get a new windows 7 laptop so if this drive doesn't work with windows 7 then I'll need to return it for one that does.

Why wouldn't it work with Windows 7

Usually, those things work with any OS.
If it worked on Vista, it worked on 7.

That I don't know, Its just what the review said on the Best Buy site (the only retailer I have found that sells this model) Also the manual that I found for it only lists up to vista as supported OS's

Also, like I said I don't currently have windows 7 nor do know anyone who has it to test it with. Even if I did it is meant to be a Christmas present so I am not supposed to open it for another month.
Well, first of all, Best Buy in itself is stupid.
I wouldn't trust the reviewers on that site either

And Windows 7 just came out... Maybe they haven't updated their documentation yet.
But my external hard drive that I've got from WD works just fine with Win7.

Normally I avoid it like the plague and would never buy at best buy but it was an awesome deal at 120 dollars with all of the different types of connectors. Your probably right about the reviewer, but always good to know about this sort of thing.

It works perfectly fine with windows 7... someone must be really stupid... Used it on two computer with windows 7 now... and yes its perfect if your looking for a WD external and don't want to get a refurbished /used ect...

Edit: I read the review... few things that you need to obviously take note of is
1) he is referring to the fact that WD told him that they did not support windows 7 aka "not compatible" which is garbage.
2) He is also complaining about the fact that it doesn't come with an esata cable... if he did his research (like I did) he would have noted that it was NOT included...
3) There seems to be no way to tell if
A. he has tested his esata port on his actual computer to see if it was working
B. checked the cable
C. actually used a different os and got support from Western digital to see if it was the HD itself so they could replace it.
4) You need to check to see if you have an esata port on your computer / fill out your information so that we can check. The USB / Firewire work good on mine currently but I have not tried out my esata port as I am waiting for the cable to come in from newegg (10$ cheaper, wouldn't have been able to check if it was working till I got back to school is why I didn't purchase it at best buy)

Thanks I figured the guys probably didn't know what he was doing because he was complaining about the esata cable being there (hence according to him making it useless) but always better safe than sorry. Thank You very much for helping me with this potential problem.
Thought I would post up again...

I got the esata cable today and it maxed around 56 mb/s (keep on increasing though and it was a 18gb transfer) and worked FINE with windows 7.
