Suggest me a D-SLR

Hey guys,

Am looking to get into photography. The Canon 450D with a 18-55mm IS lense has been recommended to me and from the little I know about D-SLR's it looks quite good. Is this the best way to go for a beginner? If not, any other recommendations? I've got around $AUD900 to spend.

Thanks,

Take a look at the D5000 - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/New-Nikon-DSL...item5d271d47da

I am a Nikon shooter, so I don't know about every single detail with the Canons. The 450D is a great camera though, I just prefer the feel / comfort of the Nikon bodies.

Go out to a store and try both of these cameras, and play with the menus / functions! After that make your final pick.
That makes it a hard choice. I assume they're both about the same spec/function wise? It's just a choice of brand/preference now?
Well some say the D5000 is rivaled against the 500D; video function, and other features.

The 450D does NOT have a video function, which might put it under the D5000 for some people.
D5000 If you haven't check that out yet, its a nice camera.
D5000 a bit over the budget if you're including lenses in that price range because you wanted a tele for motorsports.
I've been told to look at the Nikon D3000 and the Canon Rebel XS for a beginners DSLR. I was hearing very good things about the Sony A200 as well.

both are good but if you want video d5000, the d3000 doesnt have it.

Go with a Canon 40D. Prices are falling on those.
Also consider the other brands out there - go to a shop and pick them up. Don't need to buy there, but see how they fit in your hand.

The 4/3rds are great little machines. Very small and easily get strong lenses by the conversion factor.

I really like the Sigma sd14 I used, and they can be had for a song these days (or it's younger brother)

Personally, I love my Pentaxes for their dust sealing / weather proof body & lenses.

But its important to see what works best for you.
Happy shooting!
