So im trying to save as much money as possible.. I will be paying some of the cost the rest is for christmas
Any way I can save some cash and not skimp to hard? My days of water cooling and hard core over clocking have faded and I just want to play some games now.. L4D2 Age of conan and a few others...
One more thing! Is it much of an upgrade from my C2D? You guys think I could get away with just the 4890?
Thanks in advance for the input!
Yea, if your trying to save cash you could definitely save some on the motherboard. The unlocked multiplier on the 720BE will make it so practically any decent motherboard can OC it. And yes, your C2D is still a decent CPU but the 720BE should be noticably better, also depending on your preferred resolution the 8800GT is still a pretty solid GPU as well.
Honestly I'd go with the 5770, it isn't as fast as the 4890, but your PSU isn't strong enough to run more than the single 4890.
If you get the 5770, in the future you can pop in a second and get insane performance with the dual 5770's because of their incredible CF scaling, and your VX550 will still be able to handle them, so you won't need a PSU upgrade like you would if you added a 4890.
I personally always try to go the path with upgrade capability.
edit: OPTION 2
Ditch the 720BE, get an Athlon II 240 and a cheap CF capable mobo, clock the piss out of it, and pick up dual 5750's. Close to the performance of a 5870 for the price of your original 4890 build above.
Well I had a dream that I had money in my pocket, so Im just going to pick up a new gfx card.. Thanks for the suggestions everyone! maybe down the road I can pick up some nice stuff but not right now!
I think you will be more than happy with your GPU upgrade. Upgrading your CPU to a 720BE would not have been a significant upgrade IMO. I would also at least consider the 5770 http://www.overclock.net/graphics-ca...on-4890-a.html
