Suggestions on what OCN can do to get more members folding?

4047 Views 131 Replies 72 Participants Last post by  Kirmie
Fellow folders/members, we would like to hear your thoughts on what OCN can do to get more members folding. The staff here on OCN would like to see our folding program become #1. So, we are asking you guys.. what can be done to accomplish this task?

We would like to hear any and all opinions you may have. It doesn't matter how big or small, we would like to hear them all.

Whether you would like different contests, different prizes, or different incentives all together. Please share your opinions/thoughts with us. What could we change, what could we add, etc. etc.

Don't be shy, we will consider any reasonable idea.

Thanks guys!

To give them all an insight onto how it helps to cure diseases. On a giant ad.

Have a how to chat. I think many people don't as they don't know how to set it up properly. Have a live chat to help people get going.

Also, I think there should be more in house competitions for lower participants. Similar to tye team's, but also offer something for the singles out there too.

Would it be possible to go into some relationship with some of the larger manufacturers for promotions to help the cause?

I know PNY and EVGA have recently kicked up their teams with incentives in prizes and wondering if anyone from OCN has tried to get donated items from these component manufacturers we could use as prizes?

I'm sure if we contributed to the overall hardware to fold with others would come.

Just my opinion and I think what OCN offers now, in the way of prizes is totally fine and I fold because I fold, not for the prizes but I'm sure others would agree they find it more a nuscience to fold for nothing and unfortunately have the "what's in it for ME?" mentality.

It's sad I know and no one should be tempted with freebies or prizes to do something that has so much benefit to HUMANKIND, not just ME, ME, ME.

It's clearly a generational thing IMHO. Once these young ones have experience with Cancer and it's toll they more than likely would do it just "because it helps"

Sorry it might sound harsh but more need to do for others instead of for themselves.

Send out free dummy plugs, like the kind Nitteo uses now

Seriously though, just do what eVGA does. Lots of contests.

monthly prizes, like the ocn stickers but with something folding related on it such as " i fold for the cause, i fold for ocn" ..

TBH i think we should have new folders giveaway. Alot of people fold for the competition POV, the prizes are great for these people but they're always given away to the veteran folding members. I think there should be "new to folding" giveaways

Idea#1: This may be because I have little rep, but maybe add more incentive to make the top 1500, like a certain # of rep points. If someone spends the time to fold enough to make the top 1500 on the team, they aren't just a "drop in say hi and leave" person. Plus, who doesn't like rep points?

Idea#2: discount on getting an "Overclocked" account?

I would gladly donate some plugs, ones with normal resistors, if it gets people folding.

I think rallying people from the nVidia section would be our best bet. Also, explaining that you don't have to fold 24/7 to be effective.

That sounds good. Just like me, I have a 9600GSO waiting and ready to go, just don't quite know how to set it up(but I'm looking into it this evening)

well should we try to get more members or raise money1 and have certain people build a large folding farm? justr energy bill is a ***** otherwise id try to raise money for a farm where i live.
If we could offer direct links and an up-to-date guide on how to get all the software setup, i think that would make it easier for people that are interested to get set up.

Maybe we can have a thread (or post) detailing points differences between running the tray client versus smp versus a vmware setup, etc.
I know I had to do some digging to get smp setup properly (not to mention finding that with 8 threads, I needed to run 2xsmp to get the most out my cpu!)

None of this is major stuff, but it would help to get the people involved that might think it's just too much trouble configuring everything.

My 2c

wow. There were no replies to this thread yet when I started typing lol.

Getting some hardware contest's and such would get OCN a lot of new members and more people folding.

Give me a 9600GSO so I can fly in Flight Sim and fold 24/7
Just kidding, but I wish

I like the idea of a chat to help get new folders started.

nice. I think a good shirt design would be just the folding logo on the front breast with 37726 on the back centered. just a nice subtle design.

I'm thinking that even some more awareness among members would help a lot, its not uncommon to run across someone on the forums who has no idea what folding even is.

Maybe put a banner ad on the top of the screen between the Overclock.net logo and the "welcome (your name)" thing, that says something like "fold for OCN to help cure cancer" or something, and have it link to a thread of helpful information for beginners.
