Switching from console to PC

1040 Views 25 Replies 19 Participants Last post by  jaybrn1
Ok for the most part I'm a good gamer have played console games for years and just started this week playing FPS games on PC... My trouble is i find it a lot more difficult then actual console games, and my biggest problem is when it comes to strafing or shooting a moving target I usually move my crosshair way to far and cannot seemed to ever stay lined up with a moving target unless im standing still any advice to help overcome this or any pointers with PC gaming?

Mess with the sensitivity until you find your sweet spot.
firs thing i would get is the CPL mouse fix. google it and it should be one of the first results. It will stop mouse acceleration.
Maybe your mouse sensitivity is set too high. See if you can go to options and reduce it.
Also it takes a little practice so keep at it.
Make sure to use a quality mouse for sure. One with adjustable d.p.i. makes it easier too as you can switch sensitivity on the fly by buttons on the mouse.
Consoles are for noobs.

Play counter-strike, get a nice mouse (Razer Banshee, Logitech Mx518 or G5) and you will pwn.

Having a good mouse really make that much of a difference any advice for a good mouse? I do have CS:S Ive had it for about a year but no one to play with so never got into PC games because I'm always alone =(
Play some Unreal Tournament, pull out the shock rifle and just never stop moving and try and get kills.
Phss. Brand name mice will not get you skill. Find your sensitivity sweat spot. Mine is 3.7 on CS. Then its downhill from there.

Just go to Control Panel -> Mouse -> Pointer Options and untick "Enhance pointer precision"

A good way to practice and get used to the controls is to play a bunch of singleplayer games like Dark Messiah, Oblivion (games in the first person perspective) I wouldn't jump on the bandwagon and play Counter Strike much because everyone on there is pro and will whoop your ass leaving you under confident and less reluctant to return to *****ty console gaming.

And about the mouse, I used to use a black standard wireless Microsoft one, and now I have a Razer Copperhead and the difference is quite noticeable. Wireless mouse are not as good for gaming because of the response time. As long as you have a wired mouse which you are happy using you are fine. Expensive mice are expensive because of their customization (being able to change the dpi, weight etc)

Stopping mouse acceleration in windows doesnt really work all that well. Try the mouse fix and you will see

edit: I vote for the DeathAdder. I have owned many a mice (G5,copperhead,etc...) and the DeathAdder is by far the best mouse i have ever laid my hands on!

you have to get used to it. you don't have auto-aim or a aim-helper like on the consoles. get a good mouse and practice on single player games (on easy setting would be best at first.

Mines going on 5 years and still strong.

Just practice on newbie servers in source or COD. Only way to get good is get your ass whooped and learn what people do.

So?

I play by myself all the time, awp servers and all.

The mouse may not or may make a difference. I essentially suck, so even with the MX518 I just went from being bad at sucking to being good at it. However, you will feel the difference, oh yeah, gaming mice are built for that kind of stuff.

May I suggest this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...4178&Tpk=mx518

^^^ A legendary mouse, and if you have extra dough, go with a Razer Banshee

I played with a banshee once, oh my god, this thing is amazing, makes you feel like you have a 13" penis, because 12" is not enough

Yeah, just practice a bit, adjust sensitivity to your liking, and consider a gaming mouse. I like my Razer Deathadder, great mouse whenever I decide to use it. You could also just get an XBox360 controller, and if the game doesn't have built-in controller support, just use Xpadder to use your controller to emulate a mouse/keyboard.

I have my PC hooked up to an HDTV in my room, so using a mouse and wireless keyboard on my lap isn't always as comfortable as I would like. This is where an Xbox 360 wireless controller comes in really handy when I just feel like laying back and playing.

I don't think the mouse has anything to do with it at all. If you're not very good at playing FPS games with a mouse no fancy mouse will make you any better. And conversely if you pwn at FPS you will still pwn on a cheap mouse. The only thing that will guarentee you get better is practice. The more you play the better you'll get. Playing FPS on a PC after coming from consoles can be hard at first but after you get the hang of it its easier than consoles if ya ask me.
