I Have an Asus A8VE-Deluxe, an AMD X2 64 3800+, and presently just on IGB stick of OCZ #OCZ5001024EBPE PC-4000.

I am trying to raise the clock speed of the ram buy bringing the clock up to 250 and dropping the devider to 9. When I do this my system fails.

The current timing is 3-3-2-7 and it seems to me I wasn't pushing this very hard. I disable the PCI pus sync to clock speed. Any suggestions?

Usually this CPU can be pushed up to about 2400Mhz but it will not let me do a clcok speed of 250 and a divider of 8 which is only 2000Mhz.

Are you running the RAM base speed at DDR400?

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Yes, the RAM index is 200 MHz right now.

I did a little tweaking and have the FSB at 220 MHz and themultiplier at 10x.
The RAM is 2-3-2-7 1T but I was hoping to push the RAM to 300MHz while keeping the core below 2400 MHz.

OCZ said this stick will run 3-3-2-8 2T and I tried that with 275 MHz x8 but it choked.

Not sure what LDT is but it is set to AUTO. Voltage is 2.9

LDT relates to the Memory Controler multiplyer and it's voltage adjustmens.
Most set it manually to 4x for up to 260MHz, beyond that use 3x.

Some quirks in the BIOS to address,
Disable anything that has "Spectrum" in it, Disable CnQ and Legacy USB support.

RAM timings can be weird. Not firmiliar with what timings will work with that memory, but the LDT multiplyer may have been effective in secrwing with the timings you chose, so try the LDT multiplyer in manual setting and see if that helps any. If necessary, up the LDT voltage a notch or two but only if it helps.

Good point... that can allow the RAM to keep below it's max speed which beyond it will cause instability/crashes/no boot!

On my Asus BIOS, that would be the LTD Bus freq. setting?

I notice that by disabling Spectrum and legacy USB support, and also locking LTD at 800MHz, I was able to fianlly get 250 FSB and a x9 muliplier. However, I have a question about the memory specs:

I RMA'ed my 1GB kit (2 x 512) and the RAM was 2-2-2-7. This new RAM PC-4000 is rated 3-3-2-8 at 500Mhz.

If I am only running the RAM at 250Mhz or 275Mhz, should I not be able to drop the CAS Laetncey to 2.0 or 2.5?

If this RAM is rated 500Mhz, do I not want the RAM running as fast as possible while keeping the CPU under 2400Mhz?

The CPU seems to be happy around 2350Mhz and the RAM runs at 200Mhz. I am not sure where I drop the base speed of the RAM (LDT?), but then I would need a large multiplier wouldn't I to get the RAM up to 300Mhz?

LDT = Lightening Data Transfer, changing this multiplier will move the HT Link up and down.

DRAM Divider = this is the divider for your RAM
