My computer keeps freezing for some odd reason. Generally it is just when I'm playing Counter-Strike Source. But lately its been freezing when I listen to music and such. My computer has Vista Ultimate x64 and my computer's specs are good. I don't know whats wrong. I don't have my cpu overclocked much...

well first restore everything to stock settings "cpu/gpu/ram/mobo" and if its good then you know the problem was the oc. If everything's back at stock and theirs still problems the next place i would look is heat or maybe your power supply. Test your comp at stock settings and come back well figure this out.
I undid all the ocing and now it is still freezing only a little more frequent. I tried to run the System rating twice and it keeps freezing during that. I only overclocked my cpu nothing else was touched, could it be my RAID? This is my first time ever running RAID. My temperatures are also fine. The only thing that is a little high is my GPU. Its at 60 celcius
The other thing I notice is that when I ran my system rating, it froze and the same spot. It froze on the 3D textures. My g-card should handle those fine though. It the GTX 260
I could be wrong but this sounds like a driver issue! Try updating your video & audio drivers or even rolling them back or a combo of the two.
It's a overclock issue, meaning that your overclock might be unstable and causes a random freezing. Load default BIOS settings and see, if it's still freezing.
It still freezes...What should I do? Today I just updated my video driver and I got my BIOS to default.
I have never had this problem until I got vista and RAID
What's your Sound Output set at?

16bit 44100Hz or higher?
Have you tried checking your event viewer to see if there are any errors there? A friend of mine had a faulty drive that was sending a bunch of errors to the OS which cause the freezing problems. One look at the event viewer revealed the problem.
I dont know how to access the event viewer :[ tell me how to find it please. And how do I find out what my sound settings are at?

Click on Start, then type in "Event Viewer" into the search box.

Okay I've found it. now what particular error should i be looking for? It says I have 8,840 errors!
Ok, that is a lot. Organize it by time and date and see which errors are the same. Post the ones that are the most frequent in here.
Application error, sidebyside, service control manager, DistributedCOM are really frequent
Ok right click on some of those events and post the event properties here. Also the event ID will help. Also I forgot to mention but check to see if you are getting any hardware events.
DistributedCOM: ID 10016 The machine-default permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {BC866CF2-5486-41F7-B46B-9AA49CF3EBB1} to the user MClouse-PC (S-1-5-21-3281789327-3073856418-1325888354-1000) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

Service Control manager: ID 7023 The HP CUE DeviceDiscovery Service service terminated with the following error: the specified module could not be found.

Application: ID 1000 Faulting application hl2.exe, version 0.0.0.0. time stamp 0x4445c334, faulting module filesystem_steam.dll_unloaded, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x47e2d72b, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x02d3553e, process id 0x11a4, application start time 0x01ca19284e75749b.

SidebySide: ID 33 activation context generation failed for "C:/Program Files (x86)/AVG/AVG8/avglvea.dll" Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.MFC,processorarchitecture="amd64",p ublickeytoken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",vers ion="8.0.50727.763" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis

I dont see any Hardware error events
I have noticed that the DistributedCOM is 8444 of my errors. Beside it under the log segment it says "system"

my friend thinks i am missing a bunch of files. I dont have the Local Server32. I don't have dcomcnfg, and a few other files. How do I get them back?
If you think your windows install is messed, I'd highly suggest doing a clean reinstall. Should fix all issues unless it's hardware or overclock related
hmm I suppose I can deal with it until windows 7 comes out...
The DCOM errors can be solved by following the instructions in this link. You can try a repair to see if that fixes that missing files in vista.
I had found this link earlier but I couldn't figure out how to get into my registry. It wasnt in system tools. Do you guys know of any free programs that allow me to look through registry?
