I have recently purchased a Compaq preario to start me off with an intel build (First Intel build!) with a view to replacing components as i can afford to (This may seem weird, why did i not by parts and build one? Well i had vouchers from an insurance company to spend in a certain shop and their components were very poor!) I have not upgraded anything yet and it is as it stands out of the box but seems to be under performing. Below i have noted the main components and several benchmark results.

Intel Pentium D 940 @ 3.2 Ghz
Asus GeForce 7500LE turbo cache 512Mb ( Core @ 550 Mhz, Mem @ 800 Mhz)
2049 Mb DDR2 PC2-4300 @ 266 Mhz

Super Pi Mod1.5 XS 1M Calculation = 44.266s
AquaMark3 = 30,988
3DMark03 = 2,841
3DMark05 = 1,479
3DMark06 = 607
PCMark2002 CPU = 6,783, Memory = 14,144, HDD = 1318
MetaBench = 3,251

I feel that these scores are very below par for this system as my old system (skt 754 Athlon 64 3000+ @2.3Ghz, ATI Radeon 9250 128Mb, 1024Mb DDR PC-3200) even performed better in some of the tests and that had an extreemly poor graphics card.
Should this be performing better or is it just that standard parts from compaq like the mobo and the RAM are letting it down?
Any advice or comments would be great!
Thanks

Honestly, what you have ain't bringing any blistering heat either. It IS low though. I had a 6600 vanilla 450/500 and a P4 @ 3.8GHz and it pulled 45k in aquamark.

EDIT: Hmmm let me see... yup 6600 at stock and 3.8Ghz. Looks like a 7500 and a 6600 are relatively comparable video cards. Scary.
What I'm surprised about is your 3dmark06 score.. that seems super low to me.
This is a shot in the dark, but do the compaqs come already set up nice? Like is there a 1:1 divider on the ram? Can you play with the BIOS at all?

There is zero tweaks in the bios but i am buying an asus p5b deluxe next Thursday so that shouild sort that problem. I will try re-installing the drivers and use driver cleaner but do i just use nVidia normal drivers for asus? Thats what i have been doing. I will get back to you after driver cleaning.
Thanx!

There should be a jumper on your board to the right of your RAM i think,
set it to 2-3 and then when you boot it goes straight to bios and you can OC! w00t works for me
