Way more powerful system for a few extra dollars! It would kill that system!

Edit: If he doesn't need an hdd he would be in budget.

I would honestly replace that with an i5 2500k build. that Fx 6100 is really not worth it.

He was on a tight budget and yes if you can squeeze a 2500k that would be best but I did make it right under your budget with no hdd and an far better setup.

If you get a 2500k you will need either a p67 or z68 mobo to unlock it so all the prices will go up. The i5 2400 would still be a better performer than a fx 6100 for sure.

Yup, that's a really huge "upgrade" from the OPs parts.

Edit: Do not buy a motherboard with H67 chipset. When Ivy Bridge is released, boards with P67 and Z68 will be able to upgrade aka future proof.
Go with a ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 instead (which is also future proof due to Gen 3 PCIe

The CX 600 V2 is a serious downgrade from a Rosewill HIVE 550 (which has more power on 12V rails AND is modular).... for a $10 savings (and it's an 8-12 week return rebate too)..... nah, stick with the Rosewill PSU.

I was also about to tell your friend to run away screaming from that Rosewill PSU, but then I looked at the HS review, and it's not bad.. In fact, keep it. Semi modular, bronze, and with decent power output. Ripple and voltage suppression isn't quite SeaSonic grade, but it's entirely within acceptable levels.

Move to an Asrock P67 board, and the 2500k, and remind him that fan controllers and sparkly fans do not make the machine run faster, plus they're not expensive and can be added later.
