Now, inorder to buy a opteron 146 retail you need to purchase either a workstation or mobo, or something along those lines.

They must have gotten nailed with RMA's. Gotta figure 99% of the people who have recently purchased them are running them on boards not meant for the opteron. Scan is just covering their butts.
