“For many years, Datel has brought to the public products that offer more capacity, extra functionality or other game enhancing features with the aim of offering a reasonably priced alternative to first-party accessories,†said Datel founder Mike Connors. “The Max Memory card plugs into the Xbox 360 and allows a user to store games, characters, and similar information. It permits a player to transport game information between Xbox systems. The Microsoft memory card does exactly the same thingâ€"with the difference that it offers only one-quarter the memory while listing for the same retail price. Datel engineered the Max Memory card to be 100% compatible and over 50,000 Max Memory cards have been sold without a single report of harm to the Xbox console.â€

They probably have some grounds to have sued them, Microsoft directly hampered their company in a way.

They deserved it as in, Microsoft deserved being sued.

Datel also has been known to make cheating devices such as the Action Replay, Toolkit Trainer Pro for the DS, and others.

It goes both ways in my opinion.

Yeah but its also anti competitive because MS sells their own Memory cards.

<3 PS3 for USB stick instead of memory cards.

Yeah, people who wanted extra Pokemans are just as bad as software pirates!

I don't understand your implication that these apps are 'evil' or something :\\

As long as they aren't used on online play, they're all good. (Especially for the gameboy Pokemon games.)

But let me guess, cheaters suck because they found a new way to have fun in the game?

I think you all are misconstruing my post. I have cheated in games before, yes. But the devices they created (or at least most of them) required reverse engineering, usually which is illegal or is against the DMCA act.

Since when are cheating devices illegal or unwarranted? Anybody remember plugging their NES carts into a Game Genie? Screw Microsoft, third party memory cards and accessories have never been an issue before, this is just a blatant cash grab on their part. LAME.

Mygaffer, did you not hear about the lawsuit that occurred with GameGenie and Nintendo?

The introduction of the original NES Game Genie was met by fierce opposition from Nintendo. Nintendo sued Galoob in the case Galoob v. Nintendo, claiming that the Game Genie created derivative works in violation of copyright law. Sales of the Game Genie initially stopped in the U.S., but not in Canada. In many gaming magazines of the time, Galoob placed Game Genie ads saying "Thank You Canada!" However, after the courts found that use of the Game Genie did not result in a derivative work, Nintendo could do nothing to stop the Game Genie from being sold in the U.S. Sega, on the other hand, fully endorsed the product with their official seal of approval. Before the lawsuit was filed, Galoob offered to make the Game Genie an officially licensed product but was turned down by Nintendo.
Around the time of the lawsuit with Galoob, Nintendo used other methods in attempts to thwart the Game Genie, using ROM checksums in later titles intended to detect cheat modifications. These measures were partially successful but some could be bypassed with additional codes. Later versions of the Game Genie had the ability to hide Genie modifications from checksum routines.
They are not illegal or unwarranted, but the reverse engineering of the code of the platform is.

Nope, I wasn't really following this type of news back then. Ah well, I guess the courts will figure it all out. I understand this company is involved in some behavior the big three find unsavory, but this product shouldn't present any problems. I still believe in the case of third party memory cards this is just a money grab.

I agree, I just know that Datel has had legal issues in the past with several manufacturers in the past, and they have a "bad" "reputation" in this aspect when dealing with consoles.

For those people that didn't know, Datel also sells RC parts, or at least used to.
