Looks like Im getting a new board, CPU, and memory soon... OHHHHH... Does it ever stop...
AMD's fastest quad-core processor yet may be out in just over a month. According to a report by Hardware-Infos, the firm plans to roll out the 3.2GHz Phenom II X4 955 on April 20. We've heard a lot about this CPU lately. Two weeks ago, HKEPC broke the news that a 3.2GHz Phenom II would be out some time in April. Then, yesterday, we noticed that a member of the XtremeSystems forums had nabbed a sample and overclocked it to 4GHz. Hardware-Infos echoes the same information as those other two sources: the Phenom II X4 955 will have a higher clock speed and support for DDR3 RAM, but it will otherwise be similar to the X4 940. That means 512KB of L2 cache per core, 6MB of L3 shared cache, and a 125W power envelope. Considering how the X4 940 performs compared to the Core 2 Quad Q9400, the 955 could end up fighting it out with the Core 2 Quad Q9550 at a similar price point. |
