Temporarily Disable AVG?

3346 Views 10 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Capwn
Hey, I'm trying to download something but AVG is being a :swearing: and blocking it. I know it's not a virus, so how can I temporarily disable AVG? I'm using Win7 x64 and AVG 8.5.423. I did google this, but I couldn't find anything conclusive.

Thanks in advance, Jplaz.

Hi.

You ought to be able to disable AVG in the system try by right-clicking on the icon and selecting the appropriate action.

You will want to disable real time scanning. You have to do it from the menu bar. Give me a bit to reinstall avg on my laptop to check.

BTW: AVG 8.5 is no longer supported, download 9.0.

Actually I don't think you can.
Just uninstall it and reinstall it once you're done.
I use AVG and I can't find any option to disable it like with avast for instance.

EDIT: double click individual components in the overview, looks like you can disable each of those that way

When I right click on that, my only options are Open UI, Update, and Exit. (Exit doesn't shut it off btw)

When I update from AVG it says there are no new updates available. I will try 9.0 in a minute.

I can, but I'm not sure which one this would fall under. I'll just uninstall it and reinstall it.

Thanks everyone so far...

Can you disable it from starting-up (msconfig), do your deed, then re-boot with the Service re-enabled?
Ok heres what you do.

Tools // Advanced Settings // Resident Shield then uncheck Enable Resident Shield and click ok. That will stop it from blocking your file.

I wish they made a quicker way to do it but thats how I do it. As for 9.0 maybe its only the free version. Dunno if your free or not.
Thanks everyone, I just uninstalled it totally. I don't think I'll be reinstalling it, I don't download shady pr0n and torrents or anything, and all I've ever gotten was false alarms like this one.
Couldn't you just press cntrl-shift-escpe and then find avg in the processes bar and close it? After just press the avg icon to start it up again.
That's easier said than done.
It'll either restart automatically or tell you to @%#& off.
