Well, dskina and I have been talking about it a little bit, (seeing as his family rig is a skt462 and mines my main rig) so we've decided to make a thread dedicated to the good old socket A chips, where ppl can come to discuss these old dinosaurs to thier hearts content.

RULES

*thread only for those who still activley use socket A rigs (ie: folding, media centers etc)
*System MUST be in you systems list
*Any Fanboy's will be ignored ( so posts like: "get a conroe!" will just be ignored)

For your name to be on the "members" list, please PM me

And thats about all i can think of for now, so please, any and all suggestions for these rules will be taking into account.

Welcome

Hey, I was wondering when something like this would happen. A group for those of us who are perfectly content with our low FPS!

My alt rig:

Athlon XP 2500+ @ 2.2GHz (200x11)
A7N8X-E Deluxe Mobo
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128mb
2x512mb Corsair XMS PC3200

I love this thing. I use it everyday, just as much as my new rig. I'm using it to type this, actually. I'd be pleased if you would add me to the list.

Thanks! I think we actually discussed overclocking the Barton 2500+ in a much earlier thread (like two months ago)... you were trying to help me out - I couldn't seem to get past 2.21-2.22GHz for some reason. I think I'm gonna dive back into it though.

lol, well with stock cooling I only managed to get 2.3 out of mine...but the temps were scary! like 50*C on idle

Ive backed it off to 2.28 now, and it seems to be ok. I increased the vcore by 6% to 1.744 v, and the FSB to 207.2 and the multiplier left at x 11.0

Unfortunately, I cant seem to find anything within the bios that will let me change the multiplier.

Hope that helps ya

Thanks, I'll have to try this out.

I've heard the Thermalright SI-97A is one of the best Socket A coolers around (and you can add a decent 92mm fan of your choice, too). I'm running with a stock cooler right now though, and I'm hovering around 40-45C Idle (it seems to vary quite a bit) to about 53-55C Load, so I might have a little headway. I'll see what I can do, but I've got 2 get some sleep right now, been up all night, lol.

Looking forward to seeing new members and getting some more insight on the matter.

Hey can I join?

Even though the rig in my sig looks absolutely ridiculous, it is not my main system....yet. I currently still use my Athlon XP 1800+, 768MB...etc (you can see it in my alternate systems)

I recently bought an Cooler Master Aero 7+ and it isn't as good as expected
It lowers my temps 2-3C idle and 5-6C load (that's still in the 50C range)

But I also recently got an Asus A7N8X and a Thermalright SLK94-U. Hopefully if all goes well, I will be able to get my 1800+ to 2Ghz+

Even though Socket A's are becoming "outdated", I think they will go down in history as one of the best systems to own (IMO) - it was AMD's heyday
(hopefully to make a comeback).
