I've recently been though all the loops with paypal and I thought I would share some knowledge regarding account types, how keep them from locking your account, get instant transfers, and avoid all fees.

As I'm sure you all know, paypal works just fine until you get a payment from somebody that used a credit card. They tell you that in order to accept the money, you must "upgrade" to a "premeium" account and pay a "small" fee.

Well, as it turns out, once you upgrade to a "premeium" account (aka start paying fees), they take fees out of all paypents you get from that point on out, not just credit card payments.

After finding out what they were doing I called paypal and requested to go back to personal and have the fees refunded. They made the change and refunds but they said they would only do it once (gee, I wonder why). To work around this with future payments simply post in your sale thread that you only accept paypal with a bank account.

If you want to save some extra money just call them up and ask them to revert it, and post in your sale threads that you only take paypal with a bank account.

A big problem lately is that paypal will randomly lock peoples accounts and hold their money for months. A simple way around this is to always keep a ballance of zero by transfering your money to a bank account instantly after you get any payment. That way if they lock your account they don't have your money at least.

Finally, to get instant money transfers and no clearing time, you must have 2 funding sources. Ironically, you can use your checking account as primary and your debit card as secondary, and get instant transfers to avoid "e-checks".

I hope all this helps you guys deal with paypal a little better, without learning the hard way like I did.

I think you need a permium account in order to accept money from other countries too. I recieved a payment from a guy in France so I upgraded (for the 2nd time) and the fees suck. They say small, but damn do they add up!

Yeah Pay Pal is really bad, but it's kinda necessary. Untill Google comes out with their version we'll just have to deal with it. Just so you guys know there have been stories of PP taking money out of your bank account, so you aren't always protected by taking money out of your PP account.

i just called and they refund money as a one time "favor" if you had to upgrade your account just to accept one payment. also the operator mentioned you can have more than one account, you just need a different bank account/credit card for each account and a different email. that way you can accept most payments for free.

The Google version still won't really help most of us. It's completely geared toward online stores, not auctions and personal debts. I was hoping the same thing till I read about it.

Nope, I've accepted AUS from a member here and it simply converted the currency to USD without any fees or upgrades required.

Just to make clear the account types:

Personal = no credit card payments accepted and no fees
Premeium = accept all payments and fees on all payments

paypal has got to make their mony some how and thats the price you pay to accept credit cards. if you sell stuff on ebay, not everyone has a paypal account (believe it or not ) so they have to use a credit card. A seller will get more sales if they accept CC's.

I think its fair. What really bothers me, is when the seller makes the buyer pay for the extra fee. IMO, if you accept CC's, then you absorb the fee.

You can accept payments from other countries just fine with personal (I have done it).

Also the withdrawl limit is not related to the account type (see picture below). They all want this information which I am not willing to give.
I transfered 1500 from my paypal to my bank account, and it said completed on on paypal.com (after about 10hrs from, clicking the send to bank account button), but when i log onto my bank account page the money is not there. I just did this yesterday, is it possible that it take a bit after saying completed?

Sometimes it can take up to 48 hours for my bank to post the memo. Banks are slow
