With a pcs 290 card, playing bf4 max, supersampled 1680 res to 200%, making effective 3360 resolution.
I notice higher heat outputs, especially with regular aa on like hbao which brings my gpu to 99% usage much of the time. AA off and 3360 res has playable 60-40 fps, with aa at 3360 brings 40-25, sometimes unplayable.

as we start to see higher resolution in demand (3k, 4k, 5k!), the vram needs to be increased but to me, it seems its going to get harder to cool the graphics cards? without having very loud fans right?
thats what seems to be happening, unless the gpu has more vram that is not being used. Still, would having around 12-20 gigs of vram or more being used bring new records for gpu heat and louder fans? Is the future of air cooling limited?

I know im coming from a hawaii based chip but i wonder, will we see increase in fan speeds and higher temperatures at higher resolutions?
What if we increase a notable 4 gigs by ten fold?
so you can have tons of vram not being used yet have 3-6 gig vram to push 3-5k res, having all the free space of vram leaves lots of power not being used thus less heat?/SIZE]

I don't think the temps are going to get that much more ridiculous. As cards are getting more powerful they are also getting far more efficient. Look at what Nvidia has accomplished with the 750ti. That card is a good 50-60% faster than my old GTX 470, and it is so efficient that it does not even have an external power connector. My 470 has two 6 pins. Heck, a GTX 780ti is something like 5-6x as powerful as my GTX 470 and it has the same power draw with lower heat output.

thats true, nvidia has made new cards more efficient but you think it can be done when we start playing at 4k-5k and beyond resolutions
having a tone of more vram, that will be awhile since lots of people still like to play on 1920

but the supersampling makes a game look so much sharper and refined, its stunning, i wish 4k cards would be norm by tomorrow with 15-20 gigs
then supersample like 400-600 percent
i heard supersampling doesnt need anti-aliasing, for me i barely notice when turning aa on with supersampling except for much lower fps. These 4 gig cards cant push aa with higher res and the difference with aa on is very tiny.
