Sometimes Man Nurses or Murses as I like to call them, get the bum wrap, but I just though I'd give you an idea as to what it's like preparing for such a profession... where we wipe your slobber off of your face and shave you and roll you when you can't roll yourself (I'm omitting the grotesque details I COULD've mentioned):

Feel free to chime in Bindu

Wake up at 7:20AM every morning...
Go to class for 2 hours
Study for massive test friday until 1:40PM
Arrive for Mathematic equivilancy quiz at 2:00 PM
Drive to hospital
Spend 2 hours filling out preclinical paperwork
Drive back
Study more for Friday test
Spend 1.5 hours typing out drug cards.
Write care plan
Go to bed between 11:30-12:00 if you're lucky

NEXT DAY:
Wake up at 6:30 and drive to the hospitol and fill out the "day-of" clinical work
Do clinical work for 8 hours with a short lunch break.
Drive back to campus and finish writing health assessment papers (takes about 1-2 hours)
Watch Lost <- Essential
Study for Friday's test more until brain completely shuts off.

NEXT DAY "Easy day":
Wake up at 10:00. The only day of the week other than Sat/Sun to not wake up before 8. Go to lab for 2 hours.
Return to dorm
Fill out another 2 hours worth of clinical work
Type up and finalize care plans
study for friday's exam
Go to lab again for 1-2 hours
Cram for exam.

NEXT DAY:
Take massive exam
Attend class for four hours
Spend friday as the "weekend" and begin studying for monday and wednesday's exams on saturday and sunday as well as read all of the looooong chapters I didn't have time to read.

Typical results of a nursing student week?
-Subpar exam grade despite studying
-Constantly reminded you are inadequate at what you are doing
-Constant fatigue
-Sleep deprivation (not by choice)

...just so you know...

...back to care plans...

And yes, the sub-par exam scores are for real regardless of how much you study becasue the questions aren't about memorized information. They are about taking in all that information (usual amount of reading if you do all of it, for one test, is between at least 400-600 pages of medical text pulled from 3 to 5 text books and is covered in no more than 4 weeks...and the test only has 50 questions) and then interpreting it to come up with "best case" answers, and two choices are always technically right, just one is ever so slightly better.

Oh yeah, somewhere in all that I need to spend time with the dogs (4 of them), get at least one other workout in and also get on OCN to perform my mod duties. Can someone please remind me what my name is??

I lived with a nurse during her entire schooling when I was much younger. I have a lot of respect for nurses now. MD's can be real jerks to nurses. That really bites.

Well nurses are in a lot higher demand than MDs so if I have a problem then I'll just find a job at the 1000s of other facilities desperate for nurses haha. So far... no huge problems with MDs.

Yeah, MD's have a hard time too, a lot of the medical professions have a stressful life and the lack of sleeping impacts them all during schooling.

Dealing with MD's takes a lot of skill. Some are just fine and appreciate the phone calls "asking" if a test should be ordered or a different med or dose be given, they get it. Others are complete wads about it acting like they are being second guessed. It takes talent to navigate the mine field of personalities while still being the patient's advocate.
