Apparently Google isn't immune to the downturn in the markets.

Damn carriers.. SMS should be freee because it doesn't cost the operator one cent to operate. The SMS rides along some control packets that are sent to phones, regardless if a text is being sent to them.

As one buyer put it: "Where is the money that I used to buy this SMS app? I want an explonation[sic] why we shouldn't get a refund. Make a new app that does the same thing."

Crooks. How dare App Store devs charge for this? I bet if it was free, Google would leave it alone. They were profiting at Google's expense, after all.
exactly, sms is just a HUGE money making scam for cell carriers.. and google knew this. and the carriers know this. im shocked there isnt one massive class action law suite against ALL cell carriers.

I thought something like that had happened over not being able to block incoming texts.

You can block incoming texts though. At least that is what I did with a number that I told my service provider to do. I haven't received one text from the again.

It's not really a scam...

It's supply and demand.

Big difference

It's a perfectly legit gig..

However, they ARE raping people with it..
When I was in america for 2 weeks, I bought a phone for $29.99 from duane reade, it with $30 credit but I was shocked at some things:
  • you are CHARGED for receiving text messages
  • I was banned from phoning or texting a mobile in britain, not just overcharged
  • credit expired, i know that 3 did that, but they stopped doing it because of popular demand
  • no credit = account close
  • getting SIM cards is damn expensive, $50, times square, $30 in canal street, they cost £1 in britain
  • t-mobile usa told me my credit, 30 pence then AND ZERO DOLLARS, just tacked on, but then didnt allow me to topup
  • New York didnt have t-mobile 3g, at&t did but i kept losing coverage, england has HSDPA coverage nearly anywhere worth going.
  • Theres a choice of only 2 GSM carriers, in england theres over 15 including mnvo's
  • pay as you go is almost non-existant

/agreed. The price of texting is just RIDICULOUS!

For U.S. carriers, if you don't have texting in your plan, it's $0.20 per text. Funny how that works when a text is less than a kb of data. They even limit you to 300 or less words per text.
