The Wait for Quad

1039 Views 21 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  charlywiggin
So I decided to save a little bit and wait for the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 price to drop and buy on july 22. But I'd like to prepare the right mobo and cooler to OC this beast. Any suggestions???
I am an Intel noob, this will be my first intel build

Whats your budget for the rest of the stuff? Look for a P35 board... As for coolers...the Tuniq Tower is a favorite...Scythe Mine, Thermaltake Big Typhoon...
Budget is around $1000, If possible, I'd like to stay less than $1000 :) And I will be using the system as main gaming rig, some adobe photoshop, and MATLAB, labview, etc.

Is that for everything? Including CPU?

$1100 is definately my max.

Should I just get the Scythe SCNJ-1100P 120mm Ninja for $7 dollars more?
EDIT: They also have the Open BOX Ninja for $20.
Do you have any parts at all, CD-Roms, DVD Roms, floppies, cables? Hard drives, perhaps?

If you have some of that stuff, you can shave a good amount of cost from your new rig. However, quad core for under 1100 with EVERYTHING is going to be pretty hard.

Yes, this is a new intel build. I dont have ANY parts; if prices drop, I dont think it should be impossible

EDIT: I dont need a monitor, keyboard or mouse.
I need the computer parts: CPU, GPU, RAM, PSU, CASE, CPU cooler, HDD, DVDRW. I think thats all, so it should be do-able. :)

First of all, congratulations for moving to Intel.
Now, either you want to run DDR3 or you don't care (like me) and like to stick with DDR2. I would recommend a 680i SLI motherboard, or Intel 975x chipset.

DDR3 is a bit too much, I have to keep everything in my budget.

We can make an 8800GTS happen....
Case 50$
RAM 74$- Exchange the ram for a pair of Corsair 2GB DDR2667
Also, exchange the gpu for a Leadtek 8800GTS 320MB wich is only ~260$, I would make you a wishlist but I don't have time right now, sorry.

500 wats seems like it might be kinda small for a psu, but if you don't plan on going sli or running too many hard drives then this psu is a little less and about the same performance
