So I came across a guy that just upgraded his monitor because his went out. I took the old monitor to see if I could maybe get it going again, just for the hell of it.
So I get it home and hook it up to power (no video cable) and it powers up and shows "no cable connected" on the screen and I can go through the menu options.... Okay. So I hook it up to a computer and it works..?
Here's the kicker tho. If I turn the monitor on after its been setting for awhile (unplugged) and leave it on, it works perfectly fine. If I fire the monitor up and turn the monitor off or disconnect the power cable, it will not come back on.
I had some running to do and didn't want to risk a fire, so I unhooked it and did my business. After I got back, I hooked the monitor up and have been surfing the internetz and played several games with perfect results.
It's not hot to the touch and the picture looks perfect.
The model number is an HP vs17. Anyone ever hear of that, and what are the risk of a fire, video card blowing up, etc?
Btw, the information (back light hours etc) seems to have reset itself. It was all zeros, now its 00001
