With Universal, DreamWorks and Legendary all laying claim to "fast car" franchises, Sony is wheeling its own onto the track, putting a feature adaptation of the bestselling video game "Gran Turismo" into development, TheWrap has learned.

"Fifty Shades of Grey" producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti will steer the action movie, which is based on the popular Sony PlayStation game by Kazunori Yamauchi and Polyphony Studios.

Gran turismo is one of my favourite game series, hopefully the movie is more like a racing documentary (like a dramatised Senna with touring cars) rather than another awful fast and furious style film

There was me thinking Sony were tight for cash and could not afford to waste any.

A GRID movie would make more sense, for instance.
I totally agree as grid is more like an amateur starting its career and towards the top. But gran turismo is more like a car enciclopedia and a racing simulator. How can you turn that into a movie totally baffles me. I dunno.... but if its done right, it can be a killer movie.

Or the full Nürburgring Nordschleife. Two of my favorites

They're going for a realistic approach.

So the driver will spike his controller to the floor in a rage-quit when he keeps missing gold by 2/10 of a second and blame it on the tires.

Very cool, but will the movie have vehicle damage?
