2GB ram
mobo Foxconn M7PMX-S
500W PSU(dont know name, forgot and too lazy to take it out and check but it not a power supply problem)

Definitely do not mix compounds. Rubbing alcohol and coffee filters are the way to go unless you really want to be ArticClean (unnecessary but nice anyway). The Shin Etsu compound that cyberdruid has for sale right now is great.

Shin Etsu is the best compound right now, but its hard to use and not noob friendly, this is why I suggested OCZ Freeze, easy to use.

It is essential to remove any old paste with isopropyl alcohol. Stock cooling paste is never much good anyway, so replace this with a good paste like Arctic Silver once you've thoroughly cleaned the CPU and Heatsink surfaces.
Make sure you apply whichever paste you choose exactly as directed, and while your case is open remove any dust and dirt that may be deposited on fan blades and the heatsink itself. I guarantee your CPU will then run much cooler.

Arcticlean is also nice to have...
were do you get 85% alcohol?(not on internet)
Actually I use Goof off from any local hardware store or Home Depot. And I use a bed sheet cause I don't drink coffee.

you can buy it at like a cvs or walmart walgreens stop n shop, that sorta place. I dont think a gas station would have it tho
it would just say 85% alcohol and thats it

If you go to one of those places just ask them for isopropyl alcohol. It should be in the cleaning supplies. You may need to read the label.

yea isopropyl alcohol or "rubbing alcohol"

the percentage might be in more of a fine print though

ohh thxs
well 70% would work, but the higher the percentage the stronger it will be, like for example i use 96% and it wipes the thermal compound off like a paper towel soaking up water.
For me it doesn't matter how FAST it gets the stuff off it's how much of the stuff it gets rid of. How clean it will be.
oh it will be sparkli' clean. Just wait for the alcohol to finish evaporating before you put the new paste on. They will all clean the same way. So your 70% will clean just as good as my 96%
or you can just do this, lol
