I am about to buy a Thinkpad Edge 14 and want to purchase it with 2GB of RAM and add another 2GB myself to save some money instead of purchasing it with 4GB. A 2GB stick of 1066Mhz laptop RAM costs about $40 on NewEgg, while the additional 2GB upgrade on Lenovo's site costs $85. I am on a tight budget so this $45 dollars saved would help me stay within my budget.

Anyways, I was wondering if the RAM slots on this particular model were easily accessible to add more RAM myself. I need an answer by tonight so quick responses are appreciated!

Thanks. I'm having second thoughts now though.. I went to check it out in person and it looks pretty thick. 1.25-146" thick.. hm.

The Edge 14 is nice. I think the display could use a bit of improvement, but so long as you aren't gaming on it, the Thinkpad's other qualities make up for it. I've used the 14 and it didnt seem too thick. you could get thinner notebooks in its price range, but not without a compromise.

Make sure your Thinkpad comes with 1 stick of 2GB and that there are 2 slots for memory. It may come with 2x 1GB instead.

Pretty much the only thing that makes me hesitate is the thickness, but I guess unless I can find more money to shell out, I'm not going to find a better 14" laptop in the price range. I'll probably end up getting it.

I checked specs and it said it was 2GB 1 DIMM, thanks for the reminder though.
