This PSU handle this GPU?

Can a Antec Earthwatts 500w handle a Evga GTX 260? It says I am off by 2 amps.

P.S., I am kinda hoping you say no because it will make it easier to tell myself no, I can't have it.

no then. will probably save you a couple hassles.
edit: theres some pretty cheap 650s out there these days, you should look into it. definatly a good upgrade to your current card.

Yeah, the budget was only going to allow for the card. I really really don't want to increase it for a new PSU too considering the card will mainly be for folding. Thanks though. +1 Rep to both.
Ok, I hate to bump this again and I really appreciate the info from last night, but ignoring the "I hope you say no" thing, can my Antec PSU run this card safely or not?

It would only be for a month or two.

P.S., would it also make a difference if it was the 192 instead of the 216 model?

I'd say you could, if the system is not overclocked and all.

It suffices quite well, if you don't overclock that Q6600 very high (3.00+).

GTX260 is a 182w GPU. That ea500 can do 408w on 12v so it should be fine. 192 and 216 are about the same.

No, the Q6600 is not overclocked. But I am running 3 hard drives off of the PSU (2 not mentioned in my sig) if that means anything. One is a 320gb Hitachi and the other is a 1tb Seagate.
Don't worry about it, the PSU can handle SLI GTX 260

The Earthwatts 500w can easily handle a single GTX260 even on an overclocked system.

That's fine.

Sweet, thanks guys!!

Ok, so I don't have to make a new thread, which would you choose? The 192 or 216? The card will be used for folding 90% of the time with 10% for gaming. Is it true that the 216 runs hotter than the 192?

P.S., +1 Rep for all who replied.

The 55nm GTX260 with 216SP can be found for $170... get that.

They actually run cooler than the 65nm (192SP) ones but have a slightly smaller heatsink so the resulting temperature is the same with the stock HSF.

Ok, so this one?
Or do you know of one for $170 that's not a MIR?

This XFX is $168 after rebate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150329
It gets free shipping.
It comes with a free4 GB Flash Drive.
It may come with Far Cry 2.
XFX also has a much better customer service and RMA than Gigabyte.

Best in price/performance maybe but not the best in just performance.
