Hi folks,
title kind of says it really :)

I am looking for user real life experiences if poss not just benchmarks.

Currently on crosshair iv formula and 1045t x6 @4.1ghz. looking to move up but it would mean a mobo upgrade to something like a crosshair v or sabertooth990fx.

I don't want to jump to the Intel camp really as I feel they played dirty over the years to achieve their market dominance and frankly don't deserve the custom...

BUT...

Is the cost justified will I see much of a performance increase and does anyone know whether the FX AM3+ line will continue or have AMD shelved it for good now?

Cheers!

Don't don't don't do it!! A 4.1Ghz Thuban is amazing

I usd to have have my 1045T up to 4.0Ghz. I bought into FX with the FX-6100 and later upgraded to my Thuban.

You'd need to go for FX-8320 territory for a sidegrade. Gaming FX does beat Thuban however AM3+ is pretty much dead.

AMD's going for their FM2+ lineups now so it would be a waste

Thuban is still better in terms of raw IPC and single threading, unless you clock the FX higher.

Subbed for the info.
My opinion is that it isn't worth either, and I can clock my Thuban up to 4.2Ghz but things can get toasty...
You'll thank the heat in the winter

The thing is I am not convinced my 4ghz 1045t drives my 2GB XFX HD7850 flat out as it is. Comparing my game benches for that card Thuban/990fx/AMD seems to get lower average and MinFPS in games verses the blue team from what I have seen online..

I really like my x6 I've just got that "ooh shiny" itch at the moment....

Such a bl00dy shame AMD didn't go for an 8 core thuban. That really would have shaken the mid range up and kicked Intel right where it hurts.

Can you overclock your thuban more? You are on water and have an amazing motherboard.

It's a little late and I skimmed the thread but I just did a similar upgrade. 960T that unlocked to an X6 that I could run at 4.1 to a FX-8350.

In 3DMark, with the same GPU and GPU clocks, the X6 at 4.1 outperforms my 8320 at 4.5 by a few points. In the real world, the 8320 is better for gaming and Handbrake/encoding. Not to mention higher OC headroom, less power, etc.

That being said, it's not worth upgrading IMO. I'm happy with my setup but if I could do it again I'd rock my 1090T until the next round of CPUs come about.

I went from a 965BE to FX 8350 and it was a huge increase going from 4.0Ghz to 4.84Ghz. The phenom is fine but there is substantial gain in the FX. Still have the phenom in Wife's computer, a waste really. Poor thing is a Candy Crush Saga machine. Think it prays daily for a mercy killing.

Which games do you feel the [email protected] holding back the [email protected] @ 1080p?
If you're looking for real world differences and not benchmarks, then you won't feel the difference in upgrading.

While I applaud your refusal on buying Intel, it won't make much of a difference to them if you or any other consumer for that matter don't buy their product. Their money is made off of the Xeon/Business market, not end-users like you or me.

IMO, instead of spending cash on a CPU/Mobo, get an SSD and another 7850.

My main problem with my 1090T was single threaded stuff and I still struggle with that on my Vishera lol. Skyrim, GTA 4, etc ...

I'm glad I upgraded because I'm a geek and I like changing hardware and OCing and playing with stuff but it was a lateral move except in a few situations (a lot of Handbrake).

There is no justice. After all that good work it did for you....... Seriously though, You went from a four core four thread, to a four module 8 thread processor with an 800mhz increase. I would expect the difference to be substantial. Glad you are pleased with it too.

What I am wondering is whether I will have to hunt to find the difference, which will be a bit of a downer if I spend out on a new board and chip.

This is kind of what I am worried about although I take on board your other point about having something to "Geek-tweek" Sorry Pook have you got a 8320 or 50 now?
I would be looking at one of those not a 6xxx series.

On the other hand I have seen a few members with thuban x6's @ 4.4ghz plus. If any of you are on the crosshair iv and would like to share your settings to point me in the direction of improvement I would be grateful.

Still don't know what to do......

it's your gpu that is holding you back. a thuban at 4GHz handles even a 7970. here one with a 7950 . . .

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/7325735

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/1515173

maxed out the same games that my i7 at 4.5 with a 7970 did. the same exact settings at 1080. maxed C2, BF3 MP 64, BF4 MP64 and C3 at Very High and 4MSAA.

edit: just don't go overboard and get a 780 or a 290. then it will realy bottleneck.
