Just as with every other thing in your life - if you drive a hundred thousand miles or a thousand miles you buy more gasoline," Brian Roberts, the CEO of Comcast, said during Business Insider's Ignition conference on Tuesday

For me, I think the comment on the article nailed it:

He does understand, then, that that means reducing the monthly bills of the other 92% who 'consume' less than 300GB, right? I mean, using the power company model, they don't charge you a flat $100 up to 300KW and then extra when you go over. Like he said - they charge you for what you use. If I only use 30GB, my bill should only be $6 (10% of their $60/mo rate). Seems to me that's going to have a pretty big impact on their bottom line.
I would also like him to explain why the US is behind so many other developed (and indeed developing) countries in terms of internet speed, availability, and cost.

Look in this daya nd age i dont have an issue with paying for data above a certain threshold but dont go and make it all hidden sneaky pete. Come out and say it and make it fair.
If you pay $60 for 300GB of data your looking at about $1=5GB. Make the out of rate affordable, maybe $1.50=5GB sold in 50GB addons for $15. Thats fine but tripling your bill for a bit of extra usage on a supposed uncapped line is pathetic in this day and age.

I get that there are those who would take advantage of a completely uncapped system, but these company's business models have become dependant upon the caps. The amount of money they make on people that are too lazy/clueless to realize that they keep going over their data caps is probably insane.

Personally, I would be ok with caps as long as they were actually fair to begin with, and then give people the choice to either have their connections throttled or charged overages. I don't feel like that is asking too much, considering the only logic behind having them is so that people don't take advantage of a consumer line that doesn't have a cap.

Also, I don't think it would be a bad idea for the FCC/CRTC (US & Canada) to consider implementing some sort of minimum size for data cap offerings.

Did this guy really use a broken analogy that only people who don't know better might believe? What about the part where plugging in a cable into two machines only costs the electricity both those machines consume and absolutely nothing else. I must have been mistaken on how this works all along.

I hate Comcast, Comcast where I live got a D- rating and the speeds comcast gives my tiny city are pretty much the worst in all of California when it comes to Comcast.

What speeds are you paying for?

I hate Comcast, I feel dirty every time I have to talk to them on the phone. If there was any other choice, I would switch... But alas, nothing. I have a cable TV package forced on me because its cheaper to have 2 services rather than 1. I wonder if Comcast makes more money just on paper from advertisers even if the crap isn't being watched.

Murica seriously needs better internet companies, I never disliked Verizon for the 10 years I used them. If/when I move (probably not for 8 more years), I'll find a spot with fibre and no Comcast. I hear the story repeated with most "cable" based providers, that they suck.

Pay for 50mbps, at 4:30 am Xfinity speed test says I am getting 19.25mbps. From 6-10pm I am lucky to get 10mbps. Everyone who has Comcast here has the same issue.

we've had these caps in Oz since the internet was a thing, doubled down with slow speeds. The internet should be a utility these days. Do electricity companies try and cap your use? No, and think how cheap it really is, and think what went into giving it to you. The internet itself is free, the cables etc are not, but, Imagine being able to distribute power without any power stations. Our computers are what makes the internet what it is, how about we charge them. We should have a power down day, where all civilian computers, tablets, phones turn off for 24 hours. What would happen to the internet then.

Oh well, glad I don't live in US.
You are aware that not everyone has data caps in the US right? I have a 30/30 fiber line with no cap.
