Reference have not been made for more than eight months or so. I would not sell my reference for less than these cheap boost cards though. Btw OP, stop posting XFX deals, you're doing ppl a disservice.

That's not true. Although none of those are reference he posted. If you want a good reference PCB best best are the HiS with the big cooler.

That's not true how? HIS sells no reference boards. Look at their blue pcbs, it cannot get anymore obvious than that. They make/sell reference based cards, not real/true reference cards.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161412

Uses reference 7970 pcb.

Also uses reference 7970 pcb. Color doesn't always need to be black/brown.

You don't know the difference between a real reference card and one that is based off the reference design? Stop posting misinformation!

Why do people care about Reference Cards? Why does that matter?

Wow, sorry I didn't specify. Since it makes such a difference.... Yes those are "reference design". You happy now?

And people buy them for use with water blocks, modifications, what not.

With AMD gpu, reference is the design that AMD dictates. Reference cards are the same no matter the brand as they all adhere strictly to the AMD design. Some things to understand regarding the AMD 7970. It is voltage unlocked and the general design is really hard to improve upon considering the vrms are good to around 1600mhz. In a nutshell any card that is not reference or a reference based design, you are not guaranteed the same performance as a reference card.

Take for instance the guy arguing for the HIS cards which are reference based. You are at HIS' mercy here with no guarantees that you will get the same design as the reference card. Now's a good time to share this warning about HIS, some of them use different voltage controllers that effective locks voltage.

^^Example of an HIS reference based card with the WRONG voltage controller.

Why would they ever do that and compromise it's performance? To save a quick buck? I currently have an XFX 7950. Playing FFXIV make it go up to 82C =/
