Tigerdirect has early Black Friday deals and you can pick one up for $99.99. Buy something worth 1 cent or more and you get free shipping on a great modular power supply.

Just going to say this because I know it's going to happen.

These Ultras don't suck. The Ultra x3 line is one of the most solid and stable PSUs you can get. X3 and X4s are the best Modular PSUs out there.

LOLWUT

Hell no. They're not even that good, but they're decent.

The X4 line seriously suck... I suggest you should read the JonnyGuru review of the X4 1200W.

Hella nice price for excellent power supplies. I own a 1000W and it's extremely reliable.

Should be a good upgrade since you don't have to worry about extra cables and the heat they can case due to lack of airflow

I disagree, all the reviews i've seen on the X4 1200W have been very good. They all rated it above the X3 line. The only negative review I found is his.

I'll have to agree with meticadpa, johnnyguru definitely put the 1200w in it's place. I would not touch the x4 line with a 10ft pole and some other member taking the blame.

Well when Johnnyguru's is the only bad review of the PSU on the internet (that i've found) I tend to think he got a bad one.

3DGameMan doesn't review things; he reads out what's on their box.

He tested more than one. Apparently the first one was worse so Ultra sent him another "revised" one. It's probably one of the lowest scores I've ever seen johnnyguru give.

So, is this a good PSU to get or not? I am not real familiar with Ultra's, but I have always thought their modular design looked the best.

I love my PC P&C, but I am ready for a modular.
1200W Ultra X4 Reviews

Good (All 8-9/10):

Couldn't find anymore than this, other than the Johnny Guru one. I still believe he got a bad unit. All these sites have different results than him.

I would stray far away from the x4 line.

Ok
, I'll keep that in mind the next time and not grab the first familiar review I see.

From what I've heard, and no not just from the video I posted, they are really solid. I'll be buying one right now and they do have a Life time warranty.

Yet, this is the only one that matters.

Well, folks, I am speechless. Utterly speechless. Good thing I only have to type right now, for the Ultra X4 has not met its 80 Plus certification. Quite frankly, it's not even close to meeting it. Bronze is supposed to see a full power efficiency result of 82%, and we just barely got that on test four. This is absurd. I have never had a unit fail to meet its own 80 Plus numbers by this wide a margin before. Look! Test five even had it drop out of the 80 Plus standard certification level!

Before you even say it, dear readers, yes I did immediately start wondering what was up with these results. Convinced there must be an error somewhere, I looked up at the Kill-a-Watt to verify the numbers the Brand 4-1850 was giving me. Yes, it said, the Brand was telling me the truth. I then swapped around my auxiliary active loads with the third one to be sure they weren't at fault. They were fine. I triple and quadruple checked the settings on the SunMoon. All correct.

So, there can only be one conclusion - it's the review sample. But, as you will see on the next page, ripple and noise was well in spec and the unit's voltage readings were stable. By every indication other than power draw, this unit looked to be working properly. I hear you asking me another question, "Hey Wolf, don't you give each company two chances?" Well, yes I do. Guess what - you're looking at Second Chance McGee up there. The first sample would not complete test three without shutdown, and had even worse efficiency numbers than this while it was running. Doh!

The x3 is proven to be reliable. The x4 line seems to have gotten one bad review and then branded as terrible even though other reviewers rate it good.

When his unit (and his replacement unit) throws out efficiency numbers such as 74% and 78%, and then the other reviews throw out ratings such as 83% and 84%. Somethings up, someone has to be way off or someone has to of gotten a bad PSU.

Either way my 1200W Ultra X4 is coming tomorrow, i'll test it for myself.
