Well, folks, I am speechless. Utterly speechless. Good thing I only have to type right now, for the Ultra X4 has not met its 80 Plus certification. Quite frankly, it's not even close to meeting it. Bronze is supposed to see a full power efficiency result of 82%, and we just barely got that on test four. This is absurd. I have never had a unit fail to meet its own 80 Plus numbers by this wide a margin before. Look! Test five even had it drop out of the 80 Plus standard certification level! Before you even say it, dear readers, yes I did immediately start wondering what was up with these results. Convinced there must be an error somewhere, I looked up at the Kill-a-Watt to verify the numbers the Brand 4-1850 was giving me. Yes, it said, the Brand was telling me the truth. I then swapped around my auxiliary active loads with the third one to be sure they weren't at fault. They were fine. I triple and quadruple checked the settings on the SunMoon. All correct. So, there can only be one conclusion - it's the review sample. But, as you will see on the next page, ripple and noise was well in spec and the unit's voltage readings were stable. By every indication other than power draw, this unit looked to be working properly. I hear you asking me another question, "Hey Wolf, don't you give each company two chances?" Well, yes I do. Guess what - you're looking at Second Chance McGee up there. The first sample would not complete test three without shutdown, and had even worse efficiency numbers than this while it was running. Doh! |
