I recently had the opportunity to sit down for a 30 minute interview with StarCraft II Game Director, Dustin Browder. The man needs no introduction - especially to a community of gamers who spend so much time discussing the decisions he and the SC2 development team have made. Dustin gave some really great and detailed answers and it was a pleasure talking with him.

This could be true however I somehow doubt that will stop the game from selling really well. Look at how old WoW is and how outdated the graphics are on that, yet it still seems to be a cash cow for Blizzard.

Graphics don't make the game, if the game is good it will sell simple as that.

I have to ask quickly about the beta â€" there had been hints that it would be coming in the first few months of 2010.
Is this game ever going to come out? Or is it just going to be "beta is coming soon guys, don't worry!"? I'm really losing hope fast with this game, maybe they will just end up releasing it at the same time as Diablo III haha.

LOL, Beta should've been released like in 2008 Christmas, then 2009 Summer, now... Whatever, no longer care
Ya this is getting ridiculous by the time it comes out C&C4 will be out lol

no it wouldnt, if someone released a game for 50/60 bucks that looked like pong it would tank. Plus it's more of an excuse to have a game that looks like it was made 5 years ago when it's not that expensive to at least make it look somewhat current. MMOs and indie games can be exceptions, but titles like starcraft should at least be visually appealing and have some power under the hood, this is assuming it gets released later than expected. If it were released now I'd be very content with its visuals.

I don't care when this comes out, I'll be getting it ASAP.
Does anyone know the release date for this game?

What is StarCraft II really going to offer over the original StarCraft, anyways? (Game was always just OK to me, never followed it that religiously)

Cartoonish graphics, no micro/macro, higher price and no lan.

Have faith in Blizzard.

For now.

Although, ACTIVION might be trying to influence them like they did Infinity Ward.

The graphics I find pretty amazing. Maybe it's just me, but the detail they put into units and buildings (The Zerg buildings look the best IMO, especially while they are under construction) is insane.

Also, Blizzard stated they are working on a pseudo-LAN system where users would connect to Battle.net to authenticate, then a peer 2 peer connection would be established, allowing for low latency pings.

The higher price? Well that could be justified by how much content we get at launch. Yeah, it sucks that they split up the three campaigns into separate products, but judging by this extended delay, they may actually make it worth our penny. We will see. (I believe they said there will be 30 missions per race).

I don't think you guys realize the sheer size of this project. This isn't just hack up some awesome graphics, put it in fps mode and throw in some weapons where you kill some koreans. The kind of balancing that goes into a game like this takes months, if not years to complete. Not to mention the other parts of the games.

Well, strongest SC points were micro and macro (watch some korean matches). In SC2 they are pretty much removed, auto mining, etc. Come on, it's game for masses now.

Come on, auto-mining? That is more of a convenience than a game changer IMO.

You have to realize how much the RTS genre has evolved since SC came out.

You realize that Blizzard is working closely to hardcore SC players to help balance the game for both casual and hardcore gaming.

Are you into SC Pro matches or not? Cause I can tell you that you are not, just from the way you post.

Yes, it's convenience for masses but not for pro league.

Just watch like 5-10 and you will see. Some good players: Bisu, Jaedong, Flash, etc. see YouTube

To anyone who wishes for it to be released soon: please rethink what you are saying. When you say that it's taking too long and you want it now, you are saying that you wish for the game to be completely done and released now. This is obviously what everyone wants, so stop saying it. Nobody wishes to have the game delayed without reason.

Blizzard's policy of "It'll be released when it's done" is probably the best policy in the game industry. My two favorite games of all time are StarCraft and Halo. I have see what happens when a company succumbs to pressure to release a game before it is finished by their own standards (Halo 2) and I absolutely hate it. The idea that things need to be pushed out as soon as possible and then can be patched later just doesn't work. If the developer takes the time to almost perfect the game before release, it will always be welcomed with critical acclaim and years of play (just look at the first StarCraft).

I want a StarCraft 2 that is perfect. Since I don't know what goes into making a perfect RTS and Blizzard seems to, I will trust them to determine when it is ready. If you are asking for it to be released now, you are asking for a game they think isn't ready, which I don't want.

I don't think something like auto-mining is a problem, it'll just allow players to focus more on individual units and make battles more intense.
