to gtx295 or not to gtx295... that is the question

Long story short, I got a PNY XLR8 GTX 295 for my b-day (I got some good friends, lol). but I recently bought a EVGA GTX285 a month ago and im fairly happy with it's perfromance and quiteness (and my PSU seems to love the 2x 6 pin PCIE power connections).

Should I just sell it off on craiglist or tear out my GTX 285 and plug this mean puppy into my system? (I will need a PSU upgrade though and my mobo's PCIE 1.1 might bottle neck it)

tell me what you guys think I should do (and no im not going to sell this less than what its truly worth as the current market performance king nor am i going to give it off for free
)

Put it in there. You won't need a PSU upgrade. 700w is plenty.

And yeah, that CPU will bottleneck the card at that low-ish res.
do itttt

and i don't think you'll need a psu upgrade

1-your psu should handle a gtx 295 (i think)
2-e6400 will be a bottleneck to a 295 (i think)
3-would be a good idea to sell it and upgrade the cpu
4-reconsider giving it for free to me

I would have some moral issue with selling a gift that i received from a friend. a nice gift too, i might add. Sell the gtx285 for 300 bucks and save for quad sli.

I really think he should upgrade his cpu before even starting to think about quad sli

Sell the GTX 285 and buy a new cpu and keep the BEAST, you could get a Q9650 with the money from the card

Yeah seriously that would definitely be a bottle neck.

+1, I think this would be the perfect solution. As others have mentioned too you should be fine with that PSU. UNLEASH THE BEAST!

The GTX295 requires one 8 pin and one 6 pin power connector.

I have (or had rather) two BFG GTX295's. I sold one recently and plan to sell the other as well.

Long story short but my pair of GTX260 216's are faster in every test and also my 4870X2 handily beats the GTX295 in benches like 3dmark06 and FPS tests in the games I most commonly play (L4D, COD4, COD WAW).

Overpriced and underperforming. I am still trying to figure out what the web reviews were testing because at 1920x1200 (the res I game at), the GTX295 is not best in class...

yeah i'd feel bad as well, but it's totally unecessary for my rig, and if i use it i'd need a complete rehash of my mobo and psu to make it work (my psu only has two 6 pin connections and my mobo only supports up to PCIE 1.1 speeds).

to robilar, you know sometimes i wonder what reviewers say as well.
