Not the 790GX, thats a first.

And the difference here is you can have 2 dual channel set ups of either RAM.

Its a nice idea for those people who slowly upgrade over a year. They can buy a new board, with DDR3 & DDR2 DIMMs and get the Phenom II now, use their DDR3, then use some DDR2 sticks down the road.

I hate these MSI combo boards. Utterly useless just stick to one type of memory and you will be fine.

Kinda pointless IMHO.

It would be something of a safe upgrade path for someone who wants to go DDR3 later without the obligatory board change, however I feel that performance on both will suffer because of complexities in the board design.

And NO MSI, I DO NOT WISH TO TASTE THE RAINBOW, SO STOP MAKING YOUR BOARDS LOOK LIKE THE PRODUCTS OF A SKITTLES FACTORY.

so what now? you can run DDR3 and DDR2 at once?

How does that even make sence?!

You have to clock teh DDR3 down to 1066?

Either one or the other. Versatility.

The slots have the most annoying, horrid-looking color combo ever, like this sentence.

How are they useless? Say I get a 720BE with DDR2 to stay in budget. Then in the future I upgrade to DDR3 and I am still able to keep the board. Its pretty handy. But not an elegant solution... fugly.

It's useless because you dont see other motherboard makers making combo boards (except AsRock). If you want to move to a new memory platform best solution is to buy a new motherboard. Not to mention that these boards don't operate normally you need special blank memory adapters to make this board function. These boards don't operate normally like you would expect.

I take it you mean "last month" as "over a year ago"?

Actually thats not true, Gigabyte also makes combo boards, and you dont need adapters for the gigabyte boards either. And what makes this board special is because its for AMD and these are the first with 4 slots for each type of memory.

P.S. Long time reader, first time poster. I just dont talk much.
