http://shop2.outpost.com/product/473...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG would it be possible to mod that and use it as a cpu cooler?

no. its far from powerfull enough, lol.

anyway, if you want a great CPU cooler, the following ones are worth looking into:
-Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme (needs 1 fan bought seperately, high CFM fan recommended)
-Coolermaster GeminII (needs 2 fans bought seperately, works great with silent fans)
-Thermaltake Big Typhoon (benefits from better fan, but not necessary)
-EnzoTech UltraX (same as the BT)

Not at fry's. Don't order online. Don't try to convince me otherwise. Many have tried, many have failed.
I buy my underwears online.. I recommend it.. so convenient

That was not helpful at all. And i'll try not to lose sleep over it.
The Big Typhoon is a good bang for the buck if...
You get a better fan and LAP it!

Top heatsink? Check the sig rig. Worth every penny, imo. Coupled with a Panaflo 103CFM fan @ 41dB

Absolutely agreed! I don't think any heatsink can beat 21-22c idles at 21-22c ambients with ~35c loaded on a 137w CPU.

actually half the ones on the list are pretty good. the asus silent knight actually works pretty well. i have had the thermaltake v1 which works nicely, but was a pain to install on a socket 939. the fins also bend really easy. but as mentioned from others, the big typhoon is probably your best bet. there is also the thread by theinformationator here on ocn that shows how to lap the BT.
here is the thread for it
