Total Physical Memory

I know that this has been discused somewhere in this forum but I'll be damned if I can find it. This is not for my computer. My wife has an intel computer that has the P5B-e mobo with 4g's of G-Skill DDR-800. The bios is seeing 4 gigs, as is the computer when you click on system info. But, task Mgr. is only seeing 2g's. What can I do to get it to see at least the 3.5 that 32bit OS's are supposed to see?

Included in that total of 4GB max is all other memory in the system, such as on the video card.
Full system specs please? Some of the addresses are used for I/O mapping.

Also, did you limit your memory with MSCONFIG?
No, I have not limeted anything.

Specs:
Asus P5B-e
e4500
Gskill 4 gb
BFG 8600gt 512mb

Need anything else?

Does your motherboard report all 4GB during POST?

Then try: Run -> "MSCONFIG" -> Boot.ini -> Advanced

What's the maxmem there?

In your BIOS look for an option called Memory Remapping. I forget which tab it was under. I used to have a P5B Deluxe and I had to enable that feature to map all my memory when I switched from a 2GB set to a 4GB set.

remap was enabled. msconfig is showing the 2046 avail. Bios is showing 4096 and system info is showing 4gigs.

MSCONFIG won't allow you to increase it higher than 2046MB? (You don't want this maxmem setting enabled usually. We are just using it for debugging.) If not, it is probably a mobo config issue.

No, it won't go any higher than that. And, just for giggles, I put in another 2gigs and everything but the total memory is showing 6gigs now.

BIOS update?

Yeah, I may have to do that. Let me try that and I will get back to you guys. Is has the 1308 version right now but I'm willing to try just about anything on that rig. It's not mine

Started playing a game and forgot to update this. I have the most up to date bios there is. Any other ideas?
Put 2gb in

Disable memory remap

save and restart

login to windows, then shut down.

put the rest of the ram in, restart

go into bios, RE-enable memory remapping, save restart

hopefully it'll work.

Conclusion, egged board.
That's what I'm thinking. Now I know why it was so cheap. I guess that's it for buying used crap here on OCN.
