As one of the "brainless" purchasers of the Quadro's.. I can say with certainty that it does make a difference.
The biggest difference over performance is the support.. After you spend all night troubleshooting, its nice to call a software vendor and be able to say that you're using certified drivers and hardware. They're much more helpful when they know your system inside out, and companies like Autodesk know their product well, why make your system another variable?
And before I get flamed for calling tech support or not spending 9,000 hours posting to forums and mailing lists, realize that time is money
