Codeweavers, the company behind CrossOver, a software that allows Linux and Mac users to run Windows applications, is readying support for Microsoft's DirectX 10 API on in upcoming versions of CrossOver Games. CrossOver Games is a variant of the software specifically designed to run games for Windows with near-complete software API support.

In his blog, Jeremy White, a lead developer for CrossOver products reviewed how much they had achieved on the goals they set eight months ago in the development roadmap. "We've just shipped a lot of those "under the hood" improvements for games out in CrossOver Games 7.2. We're really pushing Direct X 9 support pretty far along, and getting ready to move on DirectX 10." said White.

If DX10 is possible to emulate on Linux/Mac, it would also be possible to do on XP. Crossover should make a product that does this for XP as well.

yeah.... no. xp is a dinosaur and needs to be given up. it had it's run and its time for new software to come in and take it's place.

woot! score another one for linux! i really do hope this ambitious project come into fruition because it would then mean linux will gain a stronger hold on more computers.

IMO if you want Windows applications and DX APIs just use Windows?

I'd really rather have someone working on making more games for Linux or developing a set of easy to use OpenGL development tools so that game designers can port to Linux just as easily as they port to other platforms.
Ive tried crossover, Yeah its good but they need to slow down they still have a bunch of games that run incredibly slow on DX9 or just not at all.
lets just get one thing straight about the previous comments Crossover is not an emulator, its bassed off WINE and that stands fo:

Wine
Is
Not (An)
Emulator

They literally just using the windows apis, ie not emulating. However it is a good achievement. Microsoft could easily make DX10 for xp but they just don't want to. It is the flagship of Vista and Windows 7
