Finnish software developer Jerry Jalava, in an unfortunate motorcycle accident lost a digit of his left ring (leech) finger. The prosthetic that took its place went on to become his claim to fame: it packs a USB flash drive. What looks like a good attempt at looking like a real finger, can be peeled of at its nail to reveal a USB connector. Once separated, the finger can be connected to a computer like any other USB flash drive.

Jalava modified a traditional prosthetic to pack a tiny 2 GB drive. "When I'm using the USB, I just leave my finger inside the slot and pick it up after I'm ready" says Jalava. The developer already has plans for the next version of his 'smart digit', which will have more storage, and an RFID tag. 'I'm planning to use anther prosthetic as a shell for the next version, which will have removable fingertip and an RFID tag,' he added.

uh, why?
... I thought everyone was already doing this?
People lose body parts all the time. Some are just luckier than others when it comes to what they lose and don't lose. This just makes an attempt to give a gadget to anybody who wants it, and the ease of use that comes with it.

What happens when all the front USB ports are full?

Is his hand stuck around the back?

Dumb idea really.. not to mention water might damage it if improperly sealed
this is why Finland has no army
I guess his keychain wasn't good enough.

An excellent way to smuggle data, if it were more realistic looking.
Well, at least it won't cost and arm and a leg... Just a single finger. Heh.
Just wondering if his lady friends are USB 1.0 or 2.0?

Could be worse, could be made from the severed appendage.

Haven't heard this yet but, this gives new meaning to thumb drive.

Hey, why the hell not? A simple plastic prosthetic wouldn't have been very useful....
