Cooling maker Scythe has added one extra cooler, the Katana 3, to its entourage. Katana 3 CPU cooler measures 94 x 108 x 143 mm (3.70 x 4.25 x 5.63 inch), weights exactly 495 grams and features six copper heatpipes spreading across the entire tower of aluminum fins that form the cooler. In addition, there's a 92 mm fan that spins from 300 to 2500 rpm and produces up to 55.55 CFM @ 31.07 dBA. The Scythe Katana 2 CPU cooler supports most sockets, including the Intel Socket 478/ Socket T/ Socket LGA775/ Socket LGA1366 and AMD's Socket 754/ Socket 939/ Socket AM2/

+10 points for innovation and trying something new.
I like how that thing looks.

Confused on why it's pointing downward though. Anybody know an explanation?

Most horizontal cpu coolers completely miss the northbridge heat pipes and do not direct enough air to that area for cooling, perhaps they are experimenting with directing some air towards the northbridge coolers.

Makes sense.

I like this, Scythe has always made the coolest coolers.

Probably to move air across the heatsink on the base?

I suppose...but it seems that that would interfere with airflow throughout the case, it would hit the NB and then "bounce around". Seems more logical to just have it vent straight out the back of the case to me?

I think it is to get more air to the mosfet area. Could be good for that.

Scythe is getting known for its gimmicks, more than innovation lately. Giant odd-shaped monstrosities, tiny coolers with tons of heatpipes, all sorts of weird designs. I know people are getting tired of the tower-style coolers, but towers are simply the most effective right now.
I like how it is bent up, and the Heatsink on top of the block when it sits on CPU, I wish my Ture had something like that to help pull more heat up to the fan air flow, but o well, looks good for anything but core i7 overclocking, these things need a massive heatsink.
