Hiya guys. I'm about to pour my nerdy heart and soul into a build, and I'm almost done all the planning. I just want to double check something. Do you guys think I would get a very noticeable performance increase If i move from a 2.2GHZ Amd Athlon XP with 512 cache to a 2.4A P4 Intel with 1 meg cache clocked at around 3.2-3.6 ghz? I'd really hate to put all this time into it and have it be a big flop and a slap across the face.

Honestly, I don't have the slightest idea, But I want to hit 4ghz more than anything else in the world. Haha, I'd get an opteron but they're scarce and expensive. I'm making a new 'puter near the end of the summer anyhow, So really this is just a fixer upper 'till then. But after that it'll become a 3.6 ghz server.

stick w/ AMD and make your goal 3Ghz... a 3Ghz AMD is roughly equivalant to a 4.5Ghz Intel... so especailly in games you'll get better performance with an AMD system.

just get a 3700+SD. the new ones are clocking about as high as the opterons.

Yeah I might... I am so done with this system. It makes me so angry. I cant go over a certain speed. My fsb CAN go higher, but everytime I try a higher fsb and a 10X multiplier I get phooey!
Ugh. Actually the 3700's aren't looking so bad. Question I've gotis how long do ya reckon they last? Before they get "old"

Intel are falling behind in some respects yes but then again so ar Amd so nothing really can be said..the only difference between the two is that Intel is for multitasking and multimedia applications and games..As Amd does abit better in the gaming area. I see intel doing something god soon with there Cpu's that will excite us...Well lets face it there the biggest company in the world for Cpu's
