https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/532754/tressfx-hair-in-tomb-raider-coming-to-nvidia-too-/

Will our GTX cards work with this right away or does Nvidia have to release drivers or patches for the game to get it to work with their graphics cards too? I'd think Nvidia would be able to have the power to do something similar like this in their cards since they already are using some power when they use PHYSX. Isn't this a type of form of Physx or is this something entirely different?

That Alice Madness did similar Hair effects with Physx support, so I'm sure Nvidia should be capable of doing something with it. Or do you think because Amd and Tomb Raider Creators might have a contract with each other that Nvidia won't be able to get similar hair special effects?

IIRC, TressFX is based on DirectCompute, so it'll work out of the box with AMD, nVidia, and probably newer Intel GPUs. It's more or less the same thing as PhysX, only it's based on an API that most GPUs support, rather than one that only nVidia cards can use.

Will my single GTX 570 be able to handle it alright? How demanding is it?

Specs:

Amd Phenom II x4 965 3.4ghz
Gigabyte GTX 570 1280mb
4 gigs of ram

Probably not maxed, but I have no doubt that you'll be able to run it. I don't think that there have been any benchmarks released yet, so we don't know what actual performance will be like. Either way, it releases in a little over two days, so all that information is coming very soon.

According to nixxes the TressFX is the most demanding effect in the game, this was hinted at in their live Q&A.

also a rep from Square claimed that he had been running TressFX on a GTX680 and it runs 'quite well'.

AMD don't lock down tech they very firmly believe in open standards.

beyond this we still dont know anything about the game or how it runs on hardware its all speculation, just wait 1 more day and you will find out.
