First of all, is the only compatible Intel CPU socket type for Triple Channel DDR3, the LGA 1366?

If I went with this mobo http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=16950AC1348
Gigabyte X58-USB3

this CPU http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16819115224
Intel Core i7-960 Bloomfield 3.2GHz

and this memory http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16820226100
Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

Would that be a good combo? And are they overclockable? I understand that only using 3 DIMM slots instead of all 6 means you can overclock them higher but only by using the lighter (color) motherboard DIMM slots?

Thanks

Firstly this, although Sandy does not have the outright max memory capacity of 1366 as of yet.

2ndly OP, 4GB DIMMs don't like to OC much.

What are you going to be using the rig for? For gaming, that's a completely unnecessary amount of memory. Whether you're using high capacity DIMMs or using all available slots, you're gonna have a harder time overclocking.

Also, for that price, you're much better off with a Sandy Bridge as already stated. Intel doesn't like to adjust the price of old tech once new tech has come out for whatever reason.
