Hi all, i have an asus crosshair v formula motherboard
and am trying to record system audio (aka any sound that comes out of your speakers)
Im using a simple soundcard recording program which i have used before on other machines which works fine
"Audio Recorder for Free"
but for some reason it cant detect any audio that is playing and therefore cannot record.

It will only let me select "microphone"
and has no other available sources
such as shown on the online help guide

motherboard has on board: SupremeFX X-Fi 2 with 8.0 channel I/O

Anything i should be looking for?

Well it seems i solved the problem myself

went into windows sound settings and showed the recording devices tab
right clicked to empty space and tick the show disabled devices box

viola stereo mix is now available, (this was strangely off by default)
