Trouble with XFX 7800 GT SLI

1460 Views 33 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  NeueZiel
Alright so I am having problems building a friends computer and getting it to see the two graphics cards as compatible with SLI.

The problem I am having currently is that the Nvidia display program keeps telling me that the cards are not compatible with SLI.

They are the same cards, with the most updated mb chipsets and display drivers. Does any6 one know how to fix this problem? Could it be that I have a busted bridge or something?

Any help would be appreciated.

Well what kind of board is it being run on. I do not think you can just pop in the cards, change the BIOS, and wham you got SLI. I think you need to install drivers for the other card as well.

Connect everything as usual...go straight to windows and it should detect "New Hardware", follow the prompts or it might install the drivers automatically, now restart the computer and go into the BIOS to set SLI.

But when you set it up do not put it in SLI right away, not sure if this is the correct way but it's something to look at and try
Umm yeah...

Its a DFI UT Ultra NF4... And yeah... what we did was install both cards, enabled them in BIOS then installed both the latest chipset and display drivers, and it wont auto detect new hardware.
we tried using one card, are you suggesting that i swap out both cards in that one spot?
No, connect everything up as usual, but do not set SLI in the BIOS, go straight to Windows with everything connected Bridge and Power Connectors as if you have 2 cards in 1 machine with SLI set to No or Disabled

I wasnt sure but looked at the nVidia site and it says to do what I just said...give this a once over

Bam, that's your problem right there. The DFI nF4 Ultra-D is not SLi capable.

Then why does it come with an SLI bridge and says SLI ready on the box?

I guess then do what I said or at least try to see what it does

Could have been a 2nd Revision and hell a $190 board better be SLI capable

Because that board is the SLi-DR Expert, not the Ultra-D. Make sure which board you got.

Thats the board we have. We have the bridge and everything...

How about this, while you're looking to find what board it is....go back into the BIOS disable SLI, keep the cards in and boot up Windows and see if it recognizes any new hardware with SLI disabled (if it's in the BIOS to begin with)
Do you have SLi enabled on the motherboard?
Hmm Well at first we didn't have SLI enabled on the BIOS when we first installed everything (cards, driverts etc..) But then eventually we turned it on in bios.

Tomorrow if i cant fix it im gunna start calling up places...
Well try both I wasnt sure of your settings when you loaded it up, with it enabled and disabled and see if something pops up, but nVidia dosnt state anything that it should be enabled or not in that link I provided, i would just follow their directions

you might have a jumper that you need to switch over. I know my DFI SLI-DR does.

Don't call DFI tech support....they are the worst. It's taken me 3 days to get a RMA setup and I sent in all my info on Fri and they didn't get me my RMA number back so hopefully I'll get it tomorrow.
*sorry for double post*

A jumper change? Does it talk about it in the installation manual?

I just read this about my card...

DFI has done away with the SLI jumpers on the LANPartyUT NF4 SLI-DR Expert motherboard, and instead relies upon six Pericom chips which digitally switch between running videocards in SLI or not.

Also I just checked and verified that the mobo I got is the one with the pericom chips and not the jumpers.
