Describe your problem. List any error messages and symptoms. Be descriptive.
When the system is on it works fine- no issues. Sometimes when it is off though pushing the power button will not turn it on. There is a little blue led on the back of the board where the IO shield is- it also acts as the CMOS reset button, when the system is powered on it turns off- when the system is off it is blue. Sometimes when I push the power button, the only thing that happens is the LED turns off, and if I stick my ear up close to the components I can hear a high frequency whine, but it is incredibly low- I don't even know if it is relevant to the issue.
List anything you've done in attempt to diagnose or fix the problem.
I've tried multiple things to try to fix the issue. I'm under the impression that the issue is with the motherboard- MSI X99S SLI KRAIT Edition Link to manual: https://us.msi.com/product/motherboard/support/X99S-SLI-Krait-Edition.html#down-manual I have updated the bios from stock to the current 4th version. I have tried switching to a different BIOS. I have removed the battery and cleared it that way (found out that there is a battery jumper that I can short- as per directed by MSI Support). I have held down the CMOS reset button in the back- When I do this- sometimes the LED will come back on and then when I push the power button the system will start working, other times it will come back on- but as soon as I push the power button the LED turns back off (and nothing happens with the rest of the system), and other times when I hold down the CMOS button for 10-15 seconds the led will flicker on for a split second and turn off. I have shorted the battery jumper pin- This has also been hit or miss, there are a few LEDs that popup when this is done, the first time I tried this it booted right up after I pushed the power button, every time since then it has been a combination of waiting/trying other buttons/etc to get it to POST.
Provide any additional details you wish below. There are error codes that show up on the display whenever the system boots: 9C, B4, 99, as far as I know these are memory related- but have shown up before the issue became noticeable. I have not connected the 4pin auxiliary CPU power connector, from what I understand this is mainly necessary when the system is overclocked- I have not overclocked the system.
ANY ideas or recommendations would be greatly appreciated, I have discussed with support the possibility of RMAing the board if it came down to it- but I'm hesitant to put it out of commission for a few weeks as I need it for work.
THANKS!
