I am new to this so I don't know what all info is needed to fully answer my question. I have:

AMD Athlon II x2 255
Asus M4A78LT-M

If more info is needed just tell me. I just need the values to put into bios to overclock it. Any help is very much appreciated

Overclocking isn't really a turnkey operation. There are a TON of variables that come into play. Temps, the processor, the RAM, PSU, cooling...BIOS revision, so on and so forth. The best way to attempt this is to do a lot of research and experiment for yourself. The values that work for one person may not work for another, it's all trial and error.

You can try rising your multiplier and see how far that takes you...maybe. I'm not that good at it, so take that as you will.

To OP: Follow this advice. Only drawback to the Athlon II is, it is not a Black Edition so you will have to increase the base clock frequency from 200mhz on up. Good luck.

Like I said I am new to this and I misinterpreted what my friend told me to do. I need to overclock my RAM. I don't know if anyone can help me with this but I have a G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL8D-4GBRM. There are additional timing settings on the motherboard for the RAM. What can I set these values to, to reach peak performance?

Memory Overvoltage [1.60500]

I know this is on the wrong forum but I can't find one to put it in. I will overclock my processor when I get sufficient cooling for it. I don't want to over-exert it

Ok. Here the breakdown on that you need to know for ocing any athlon II and phenom II cpu on air.
1) Max cpu voltage is 1.55v.
2) Keep temp under 55c.
3) NB frequency take it as high as you can take it and stable.
4) CPU/NB voltage max 1.55v. This the voltage for NB Frequency.
5) Keep HT around 2000.
6) Keep memory close or under to stock speed.

I think he summarized everything that needs to be said
If I had the same hardware and you took the same OC/BIOS settings I had... it would probably either be too much voltage (though not necessarily unstable) or too little voltage/unstable. Every chip is different.

Dolk's Guide to the Phenom II - I often reference this guide when folks inquire about general overclocking questions. It's geared toward Phenom chips but most of it's applicable to Athlons also. Skip the Phenom talk and review the overclocking section. Read up!
